Under coach Craig McRae’s, the Magpies played with the dare, flair, commitment and courage, to win the minor premiership despite a minor drop-off towards the end of the home and away season.
2023 was full of heart-pounding moments for the Magpies, with 18 gripping victories, including five nail-biting wins by a mere margin of under 10 points. As the finals approached, Collingwood's indomitable spirit remained unshaken, delivering spine-tingling victories in their two finals, setting the stage for an epic showdown in the Grand Final.
When the final quarter of the Grand Final arrived, and the margin was tight, players, coaches, and fans alike held their breath, knowing that the Magpies were destined for glory. In an absolute thriller, they emerged victorious, triumphing over the Brisbane Lions by a mere four points. It was a Grand Final for the ages, etching its name in the annals of the national competition as the greatest spectacle in 24 seasons.
The win – Collingwood’s first since 2010, and 16th in VFL/AFL history – was not just for the 23 players and coaches, but also for the club’s ‘19th player’ – the Magpie Army.
